Tzu Chi Association in Fight Against Hunger

 

About one thousand families including orphans, the disabled and infirm in Teyateyaneng town received donations of food and blankets from the Tzu Chi Relief Association, chairperson Mrs. Jennifer Chen  announced on December 22.

The Tzu Chi Association donated and bags of rice with assistance from their Taiwanese counterparts, who in response to their request, had sent over 5 000 bags of rice and 4 000 blankets. Each family would get 20 kilogrammes of rice and one blanket, Mrs. Chen said.

Communities from Ha Motjoka, Ha Ratsiu, Ha Molemane, Lithabaneng, Ha Mohlaetoa, Ha Mokhothu, Ha Ramonaheng and Ha Ntjabane had benefited from the largesse, meant to relieve the people from hunger as well as maintain the good relation between Taiwanese and Basotho.

Similar donations were made in Maseru where 3000 people benefited and in Mafeteng district where 1000
people had gifts of  bags of rice, the Lesotho Tzu Chi chairperson said.

Teyateyaneng District Disaster Management Officer, Mrs. 'Mamonyaku Leuta said the criterion for selecting those worthy of assistance was made by the chiefs of the eight villages and a representative of the Member of Parliament for the Teyateyaneng Constituency.

The Lesotho chapter of the Tzu Chi Association was formed in 1996.
