Two Chinese Guilty of Working in Lesotho Unlawfully

 

The Qacha's Nek Magistrate's Court this week sentenced two Chinese to a six months jail sentence or a M1 000 fine after being found guilty of working in the country without work permits.

According to evidence led in court, the accused were found working at a supermarket in Sehlabathebe without valid work permits on August 14 by a Labour department official on an inspection tour. They were then arrested and charged with contravening Section 165 (2) of the Labour Order No. 24 of 1992.

In mitigation, Yang Bin (24) and Chen Chaohui (34) said the had already applied for the work permits but were yet to receive them.

The two were among several other Chinese accused of offenses including contravention of the provisions of Section 14 of the Passport Services and National Identity cards Act No. 9 of 1984.
