SIXTH  ALL AFRICA GAMES MEDALLISTS TO BE HONOURED
 


Six Taekwondo athletes who brought medals home from the continental All Africa Games will be honoured by the Minister of Gender, Youth, Sports and Recreation Mrs. 'Mathabiso Lepono at the function to beheld at  Bambatha Ts'ita on Friday.

The six athletes are gold medallists 'Maiketso Komane and Lineo Mochesane, while silver medallist is Puleng Lala and three bronze medallists are medal specialist Likeleli Thamae as well as 'Mamokoai Ts'oene including Tatolo Letsoela.In an interview, the Administrative Secretary at Lesotho Sports Commission and Recreation Mr. Motebang Mofo said the Minister to present the athletes with medals as a gesture of honour. Mr. Mofo said Mrs. Lepono would also address the athletes by delivering a speech at the end of the function.

On the other hand, the Public Relations Officer of the Sports Commission, Mr. Makara Nkuoatsana said the presidents from other associations would also be invited to attend the occasion. He said the purpose of the function is to give the athletes a welcoming gesture and show appreciation for the work well done, adding that as the Minister bid them farewell when they left for Nigeria, it was wise to for the Minister to welcome them again.

Other associations which represented the country at the Eighth All Africa Games staged in Abuja, Nigeria earlier this month included boxing, athletics and baseball as well as table tennis. In the last 1999 All Africa Games tournament held in Johannesburg, South Africa, Lesotho managed to bring a total of nine medals mainly from taekwondo team and one from boxing but no function was made to honour them.
