QUEEN MOTHER INVITES YOUTH TO FESTIVAL

 

 
The Queen Mother, Mamohato Bereng Seeiso has strongly appealed to the Lesotho youth to attend this year's Morija Cultural Festival in large numbers, to ensure continued success of the festival in promotion of the Basotho Culture.

However she reminded the youth that Morija is a respectful place and therefore strongly urged them not to use alcohol while attending the function. She pleaded with the youth to come to the festival with minds that
are willing to learn more about the culture of Basotho. She encouraged them to avoid destructive practices that would gain them nothing but misery. The Queen Mother said these words when officially launching the Morija arts and Cultural Festival at Morija, yesterday

She also invited all the Basotho people to join hands together to ensure further growth and sustainability of the Morija Festival. She expressed gratitude to the sponsors of the event whom she said without them the
festival would have not been possible.

Speaking at the same occasion the acting Minister of Culture, Mrs. Mathabiso Lepono congratulated the Lesotho Evangelical Church (LEC) for its efforts in promoting the Basotho heritage through the museum which keeps the oldest heritage collections and also through the Morija festival which has helped many people in and out of the country to know more about the culture of Basotho. She indicated that what the church is doing is a symbol that region and culture go together. She said Morija, which was popularly known as a centre for learning has now transformed itself into a cultural institution.

A representative of the Morija festival organizing Committee, Mr. Motlatsi Masholugo thanked all the people and companies who continue to contribute and those who contributed financially and otherwise to the activities of the festival since its inception in 1999. She Expressed hope that this fifth festival will be the most successful as the knowledge they have gained from the past festivals is enough to lead them to the best organization of the
event.

Present at the occasion were government officials, LEC officials, students from selected schools, members of diplomatic corps in Lesotho, and members of the media. The Morija Festival for this year will be held on October 2 to 5.
