Lesotho sees
peace and stability as prerequisites for traveling a successful road for
Lesotho's development. This was said by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr.
Mohlabi Tsekoa at an occasion to celebrate the 13th anniversary of the
reunification of Germany, held at Lesotho Sun hotel, Thursday.
Mr. Tsekoa
stated that they were determined to make these concepts hold so that in
their time they could succeed to create a more prosperous Lesotho where all
could reap the fruits of development. He said as they celebrated the
historic reunification of Germany, Lesotho continued to focus more sharply
on addressing national priorities that include poverty alleviation,
employment creation, deepening democracy, good health for all, provision of
life long education and combating land degradation. He wished the president
of Germany good health and well-being, and the people and government of
Germany success, happiness and prosperity.
Speaking at
the same occasion, the Ambassador of Germany to Lesotho, Ms Anna-Margareta
Peters said in the 1990s, the reunited Germany was suspected of forgetting
her friends abroad adding that this was not the case because the country
followed with great interest and continued support Lesotho's endeavors to
improve the lives of Basotho.
She stated
that decentralized rural development was the main field of her country and
Lesotho's cooperation including a component called land management. She
further indicated that the vision 2020 and the way the
Lesotho government goes about to put it into practice, has Germany's respect
and admiration. Present at the occasion were government ministers and other
senior officials, heads of diplomatic missions in Lesotho, German community
in Lesotho and the Germany embassy staff.
Germany was
divided into two separate states of West and East Germany in 1945 following
its defeat in the hands of allied forces in the World War II. The two
Germans were reunited in 1991 with the dismantling of the Berlin wall.
