PEACE AND STABILITY ARE PREREQUISITES FOR DEVELOPMENT-TSEKOA
 

Lesotho sees peace and stability as prerequisites for traveling a successful road for Lesotho's development. This was said by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Mohlabi Tsekoa at an occasion to celebrate the 13th anniversary of the reunification of Germany, held at Lesotho Sun hotel, Thursday.

Mr. Tsekoa stated that they were determined to make these concepts hold so that in their time they could succeed to create a more prosperous Lesotho where all could reap the fruits of development. He said as they celebrated the historic reunification of Germany, Lesotho continued to focus more sharply on addressing national priorities that include poverty alleviation, employment creation, deepening democracy, good health for all, provision of life long education and combating land degradation. He wished the president of Germany good health and well-being, and the people and government of Germany success, happiness and prosperity.

Speaking at the same occasion, the Ambassador of Germany to Lesotho, Ms Anna-Margareta Peters said in the 1990s, the reunited Germany was suspected of forgetting her friends abroad adding that this was not the case because the country followed with great interest and continued support Lesotho's endeavors to improve the lives of Basotho.

She stated that decentralized rural development was the main field of her country and Lesotho's cooperation including a component called land management. She further indicated that the vision 2020 and the way the
Lesotho government goes about to put it into practice, has Germany's respect and admiration. Present at the occasion were government ministers and other senior officials, heads of diplomatic missions in Lesotho, German community in Lesotho and the Germany embassy staff.

Germany was divided into two separate states of West and East Germany in 1945 following its defeat in the hands of allied forces in the World War II. The two Germans were reunited in 1991 with the dismantling of the Berlin wall.
