PM OPENS LEHAKOE RECREATIONAL CENTRE

 


The Right Honourable  Prime Minister, Mr. Pakalitha Mosisili has commended the new Central Bank of Lesotho reaction and cultural center, Lehakoe, as a facility that will make an important contribution to the well being of the Basotho people by providing them with modern recreational opportunities. 

Speaking during the official opening of the center, Mr. Mosisili said the recreation and cultural center came at the time when the government of Lesotho was placing high priority on the promotion of tourism, including international sporting competitions. He added that it would also offer a rendezvous for intellectual pursuits because a healthy body and a healthy mind go hand in hand.

In this regard, he said the center endowed with world class facilities, was well positioned to host various international tournaments for both indoor and outdoor facilities. 

The Prime Minister therefore, thanked the contractors and all those who contributed, in their various ways to the success of the enormous project of constructing the center.

Speaking at the same occasion, the governor of Central Bank of Lesotho, Mr. Motlatsi Matekane indicated that the facilities of the center are of such a high standard that they will provide Lesotho athletes with proper training. The facilities will also enable them to host other sporting disciplines such as swimming, squash, aerobics, lawn tennis and others, which they could not host before, due to lack of suitable facilities.

The Governor added that in recognition of the public interest, the board of the bank has resolved to make the center accessible to the public at a small fee that will enable the bank to recover the cost of maintaining the facilities of the center. 

The construction of the center cost about M52.3 Million and its facilities include club housing, multi-purpose sports hall, Olympic outdoor pool, poolside bar and braai place as well as the cultural hut.
