Finally, the water that was released from 'Muela dam on Thursday last week
reached Maseru city on Thursday morning. The Lesotho Highlands Development
Authority (LHDA) announced that the release of water from 'Muela dam is
effected to address the critical water shortage along the towns bordering
the Mohokare river and particularly the Maseru city and outlying
villages.
The
statement from the LHDA further says that the water took a long time to
arrive at the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) intake point because of
the extremely dry riverine conditions in the Mohokare River. "The public is
advised to exercise caution in the use of the rivers namely Nqoe, Hololo,
and Mohokare for safety , and also reminded to use water with great care"
LHDA stated.
The shortage
of water has been a crisis for the past two weeks affecting individuals and
businesses, especially the factories in both the Thetsane and Maseru
Industrial Areas.
