Local yarn spinning mill to open in 2004

More than one thousand Basotho are to get jobs when Taiwanese Global Garment Company opens the first
spinning yarn mill in Lesotho, beginning January, 2004.

In an interview with LENA, Global Garment Company Managing Director, Mr. Chien-An Lin said the establishment of the yarn mill in Lesotho is an opportunity for the company to contribute to the country's economic development, not only by way of creating jobs for Basotho but also by promoting many other industries in the country whose support services they will need in order that they operate at full capacity

Mr.Chien-An said they hope to turn the yarn mill into a real business for Basotho, using local raw materials and marketing the finished products to the local companies, to reduce the money flows out of the country. Before  yarn production, between January and April 2004, staff will be trained  to ensure effectiveness and efficiency at the work place, he said.

Construction of the mill started in 2002 at Thetsane industrial area and the company is expected to be fully operational in April, 2004.
