LESOTHO REPRESENTED AT DIGITAL AFRICA SUMMIT
 


The Minister for Communications, Dr 'Mamphono Khaketla is representing Lesotho at the Digital Africa Summit, which started in Accra, Ghana on February 19.The summit is a gathering of government and private sector leaders committed to the development of Information Communications Technology (ICT) infrastructure in Africa.

A release about the summit indicates that the theme of the summit is" Building Digital Opportunities through Public Partnerships." Participants at the summit come from Commonwealth countries, and they include Ministers of ITC, Ministers of Public Enterprises, Non Governmental Organisations, intergovernmental bodies concerned with ICT, private sector partners in ICT projects in Africa and finance organisations.

The Minister is expected to make a presentation on the experiences and policies of the government of Lesotho in relation to the regulation of the telecommunications sector in Lesotho, and how the private sector in the country is working together in this endeavour.

Dr Khaketla, will also address the issue of innovative strategies for encouraging inward investment and original approaches employed in Lesotho to retain wealth generated by such activities. The Minister has been accompanied to the summit by the Principal Secretary of  the Ministry, Mr. Ts'eliso 'Mokela. The summit ends on February 21, 2003.
