| LOWLANDS WATER SUPPLY PROJECT TO SOLVE MABALANE WATER CRISIS | |
The Lowlands Water Supply Project will explore ways of supplying the Mabalane areas with water. The Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) Public Relations Officer Mr. Khotso Letsatsi said in an interview when addressing the issue of long term planning regarding water problem in the Lowlands. Mr. Letsatsi said to solve the problem of water shortage in the Maseru city, the 'Muela Dam will supply the Mohokare River with water until necessary. However, he pointed out that there are areas, which have still not accessed water, but promised that water will reach such areas after seven days. The WASA said Roma residents also experience shortage of water, but his company is doing its best to solve this problem as they are engaged in a process of using boreholes to supply Roma residents with water. Mr. Letsatsi said in Moyeni (Quthing), the shortage of water is due to technical problems that his company is facing hence water is being rationed. He therefore appealed to all residents to avoid using hosepipes for washing their vehicles and watering gardens. The Lowlands Water Supply Project is presently engaged in a feasibility study which aims at examining the most feasible and viable ways of supplying the main towns and settlements of the Lesotho Lowlands with sustainable water to meet the demands expected in the year 2020, and at the same time identifying suitable water resources to meet longer term water demand to the year 2035.28 October 2003 |
