The Lesotho Red Cross Society (LRCS) visited different villages to identify the living conditions of people where the Home Based Care Programme for HIV/AIDS will be launched in the Mafeteng district . In an interview with LENA , the LRCS AIDS Educator for the Mafeteng Branch, Mr. Pule Mothibi said the Society visited the villages that included Ha Motlere, Sekameng, Likhoele, and Mathebe last week, as they have established community support groups to provide care for sick people. Mr. Mothibi added that Home Based Care Programme is expected to be launched in one of these villages in June this year. He further said in the villages, which were visited, the Society observed that the implementation of the programme is highly needed to reduce the number of people who die each day as a result of HIV/AIDS related diseases. The AIDS Educator pointed out that the groups, also showed that they are prepared to engage in the programme immediately when it has been implemented to provide the necessary care for people who are already infected and affected by the pandemic.
Chiefs, Priests, Students and members of the Mafeteng District AIDS Taskforce
were also briefed about the programme during the visits. LRCS is a
