A joint operation by Qacha's Nek and South African Police over the last weekend netted 30 livestock which were left abandoned in a gorge at 'Melikane, the Officer Commanding Qacha's Nek police, Superintendent Thabiso Thibeli has announced. Superintendent Thibeli said
the 26 cows and four horses had new markings and were suspected to have been
stolen from the South African side and were being kept in the gorge until
such a time that the marks healed. Decrying the stock theft, which he said was becoming more widespread, Superintendent Thibeli said recently three men from Mosaqama in the district were arrested after they killed a South African police inspector who had been trying to stop them from stealing livestock. The Qacha'Nek District Secretary had been forced to go and investigate the cause of the deaths from the South African side, Superintendent Thibeli said. 18 December 2003 |
