At its Meeting on Tuesday 29 July 2003 under “Memoranda”

1. THE  STOPPAGE  OF  THE  REGULAR  AND  ROUTINE REFERRALS  OF  PATIENTS  TO  BLOEMFONTEIN

          Memorandum C3(2003/6)108 by the Honourable Minister of Health and Social Welfare.

          Cabinet approved:

(a)     That the regular and routine referrals of patients to hospitals in Bloemfontein for check-ups be stopped;

(b)     That a detailed assessment be made concerning capacity of the available facilities in the country to undertake most specialist interventions and to address human resource capacity building;

(c)     That the Honourable Minister of Health and Social Welfare, or a person designated by him, be authorized to facilitate negotiations with South Africa in order to review and to update collaboration with the Free State Province regarding Health Services.

2.          NATIONAL IDENTITY CARDS BILL 2003

          Memorandum C3(2003/6)109 by the Honourable Minister of Home Affairs and Public Safety.

          Cabinet approved:

          (a)          The National Identity Cards Bill 2003;

          (b)          That the Bill be tabled before parliament for enactment.
