Botswana, Lesotho Youth Water Action Teams Hold Discussions

 

A youth team from Botswana meets with its local counterpart for six days beginning this Sunday, to discuss water resources management practices and share experiences.

The Lesotho Youth Water Action Team (LYWAT) host a group of 30 youth from the Botswana Youth Water Action Team for discussions over several days that will include activities relating to integrated water resource management in Lesotho, interactive sessions with water affairs stakeholders and a visit to the Katse Dam. 

According to Lesotho country coordinator Miss Tanki Tuoane, the Botswana team will assess the extent to which Basotho youth have committed themselves to water resource management activities as well as share experiences on the vitality of the youth's participation in water management activities.

There will also be a one-day seminar for all water stakeholders, scheduled for December 15 at the Lesotho National Convention Centre. During the seminar, stakeholders will brief the visitors on critical issues in the field as well as the extent to which youth have been incorporated in water affairs issues in Lesotho.

 The seminar will be attended by among others the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA); the department of Water Affairs; Lesotho Highlands Development Authority (LHDA); Lowlands Water Supply Project and; Rural Water Supply. 

The Botswana team will hold talks with the Geography department of the National University Of Lesotho, whose students are the pioneers of the Lesotho Youth Water Action Team.

The Lesotho Youth Water Action Team was founded in 2001 as a country chapter of the regional body, the Southern Africa Youth Water Action Team. It is mandated to promote and advocate for youth participation and involvement and building capacity of the youth in water resource management locally, regionally and internationally.
