WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION DIRECTOR GENERAL VISITS LESOTHO | |

The Director General of World Health Organization (WHO) Dr. Gro Harlem Brundtland will pay a two day official visit to Lesotho, as part of her world tour to WHO member states with significant health programmes like Lesotho, since she is a public health specialist. The Principal Health Educator, Mrs 'Mamotena Thibeli said the WHO director will be in Lesotho from Wednesday to Thursday next week and she is expected to have an audience with the Prime Minister, and the minister of Health and Social Welfare as well as the first lady. She said Dr. Brundtland will also meet the United Nations (UN) heads of agencies, at a joint meeting with the World Food Programme (WFP). Mrs. Thibeli added Dr. Brundtland will also engage in a tour of the Queen II hospital, where she will hand over adolescent health equipment to the hospital administrators. According to her visitation programme, she will further pay a visit at Ithuseng Rehabilitation Centre, where she will also hand some equipment to be used at the center. The programme also shows that Dr. Brundtland will tour the National Health Training College (NHTC) and visit the Christian Health Association of Lesotho (CHAL) health facility at the Seventh Day Adventist Health Centre. Among other offices that the director general will pay visit, are WHO offices where he will address the staff, while the climax of the visit will be a press conference that will be held at headquarters of the Ministry of Health. Dr. Brundtland will also be briefed about some programmes such as Support
to Tobacco-Free Initiative and Health Cities, which is one of the programmes
of the Maseru City Council (MCC). She is the first Director General of the
WHO to visit Lesotho since the inception of the organization 54 years ago. | |
