UNDERWEIGHT CHILDREN BENEFIT FROM THERAPEUTIC FEEDING

More than 500 under weight children between six months and five years in Mohale'shoek were supplied with nutr-mel,a supplementary milk in four health centres, since the therapeutic feeding started in August this year.

In an interview, the Public Health Nurse at Nts'ekhe government hospital, Mrs. 'Mampe Makhabane, said 200 children were provided with the nutri-mel at the hospital, 150 at Holy Cross, 120 and 80 at Morifi  and  Lithipeng respectively. She said the milk is aimed at improving the children's weight and speed up recovery from malnourished status. Mrs. Makhabane attributed the source of malnutrition to poor feeding, and in some instances lack of proper food or none to some children.

Hospital records reveal that out of 32 malnourished children admitted at the hospital, since January, 20 recovered, 10 died, one discharged and another still in the hospital for further recovery from malnutrition.
