| SHORTAGE OF STAFF IS THE MAIN PROBLEM TO SERVICE DELIVERY- MINISTER | |
|
The Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Dr Motloheloa Phooko says shortage of staff has contributed enormously to slow delivery of services in health centres. He was responding to a question from a Member of Parliament for Qoaling, Mrs 'Mapheello Ts'uluba who had asked the Minister if he was aware of the slowness in the delivery of health services in health centres. Dr Phooko said although the Mabote and Qoaling Clinics were built as Filter clinics to relieve the Queen 11 hospital of congestion of patients, the two clinics have not been working around the clock due to shortage of staff that include; nurses and doctors. He said even though the intention was for the two clinics to start operating 24 hours, this has not been so because of shortage of staff. "Because of this problem, I have instructed that the 21 nurse graduates be employed with immediate effect to respond to the current shortage' he added. Dr Phooko said the problem would be solved as soon as the Cuban doctors who have arrived in the country have completed their orientation course and added that some of them will be deployed at the two clinics so that normal operations could resume. 09August, 2002 | |
