PRESS RELEASE - OFFICE OF THE SECRETARY OF THE COUNCIL OF STATE
 


The public is hereby notified that in a meeting of the Council of State held at the Royal Palace in Maseru on Wednesday 26 June, 2002, the following persons were sworn-in by the Chief Justice as new Members of the Council of State:

(a) The Leader of the Basotho National Party (BNP), Major General Justin Metsing Lekhanya MP;

(b) The Leader of the Lesotho People’s Congress (LPC), Mr. Kelebone Albert Maope MP; and

(c) The President of the Law Society, Advocate Zwelake Mda.

At the same meeting, His Majesty, acting on the advice of the Council of State, has announced Saturday 24 August, 2002 as the date on which the constituency elections for Hlotse and Mount Moorosi will be held.

Furthermore, His Majesty, on the advice of the Council of State, nominated the following Eleven (11) persons as Members of the Senate:

(a) Mr. Timothy Thahane;

(b) Dr. ’Mamphono Khaketla;

(c) Dr. Rakoro Phororo;

(d) Ambassador Lebohang Ntšinyi;

(e) Mr. Refiloe Masemene;
(f) Mrs. Mookho Mathibeli;
(g) Chieftainess ’Manapo Majara;
(h) Major-General Phisoane Ramaema;
(i) Chief ’Mualle Malebanye Moshoeshoe;
(j) Chief Qajela Lebona; and
(k) Chieftainess ’Malerotholi Ntsubise Sekhonyana.

The public may wish to recall that the other Members of the Senate comprise the Twenty-Two (22) Principal Chiefs of Lesotho.
