MOSAKENG AWARDS MEDALS TO LESOTHO DEFENCE FORCE MEMBERS

The Commander of the Lesotho Defence Force (LDF), Lt. Gen. Makhula Mosakeng has awarded medals to 168 members of the army for credible long service and outstanding achievements, at a ceremony held at Ha Ratjomose barracks on Monday 14 October,2002. Out of the 168 members, 64 obtained medals for 20 years of outstanding service, 98 for 10 years of outstanding service and 6 for having proven to be shooting champions in the international shooting competitions that
Lesotho took part in.

Mr Mosakeng said the medals are the first of their kind to be awarded to members of the LDF and they came at the time when the army has grown much bigger for the King to afford to award all the medals that are given out every year to honour good service of members of the army. He indicated that they have decided that from next year, the authority of the army will also award medals that have always been awarded by the King to members of the LDF, except those that honour members who served credible service of 30 years in the army.

He said the new medals that he was awarding at the occasion were intended to boost the moral of the LDF soldiers and to motivate them in their duties as members of the army. He said those who qualify for the medals are chosen by their superiors at all ranks, on the basis of good behaviour, respect and a crime free record during service in the army.
