MINISTRY TO HOLD MARCH TO SENSITISE MINEWORKERS ON HIV/AIDS
 


The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will hold a march on Friday 13 December,2002 to sensitise local people and mineworkers entering the country through the Maseru border post on  HIV/AIDS. A press statement from the ministry indicates that pamphlets bearing messages on protection from infection and on how to live with HIV/AIDS will be distributed along the route, which will start at Pitso ground to the border post and ends at Maseru club.

Participating at the march will be the staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs joined by representatives from Resident Diplomatic Missions. The marchers will be accompanied by the police brass band. At the Maseru Club, some physical fitness games will be played. The occasion will be closed with delivery of short remarks by the Minister of
Foreign Affairs, Mr. Mohlabi Tsekoa who will have led the march.

The release indicates that the exercise is in line with the ongoing efforts of the government of Lesotho in the fight against HIV/AIDS. The first AIDS related death in Lesotho was recorded in 1986, since then the percentage of people infected with HIV/AIDS has risen to about 31%.
