MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT'S EMBARK ON POVERTY REDUCTION PROJECTS

While Members of Parliament for constituencies in rural areas will be busy with agricultural activities during this ploughing season, those in constituencies in the urban areas where there is no arable land, have decided to engage in other developmental activities that will help to address the problem of poverty in their constituencies.

In an interview with Lesotho News Agency (LENA) the Member of Parliament for Maseru Central, Mr Popane Lebesa indicated that they as Members of Parliament for constituencies in urban areas have considered embarking on projects that promote self-reliance, especially poultry, for development of communities in their constituencies.

However he said for his constituency, they have found shortage of water as the main problem that requires immediate attention and therefore he has, in consultation with chiefs within the constituency, established a committee that is currently drawing plans on how the villages within the constituency should be supplied with water.

Mr Lebesa indicated that so far the committee comprising of 10 members  representing all villages of the constituency, have identified areas where water pipes will run to ensure sufficient supply of water in the constituency. He added that further preparations on this project will be made when funds which they are currently seeking for the project are available. He indicated that other plans for the development of the constituency involve job creation projects and fundraising activities, to address the
problem of unemployment in the constituency.
