LONGMAN DONATES BOOKS TO PRISONERS | |

In presenting the books, the Director of Longman Lesotho, Miss Leomile Putsoa, said they were giving out the books as their contribution to the rehabilitation of prisoners in the country. Miss Putsoa indicated that they chose to direct their assistance to the prisoners because they are the most marginalized group of the society, yet they have a great potential of contributing to the development of the country when they can be given support, while undergoing rehabilitation process in prisons. Ms. Putsoa indicated that they are expecting the books to release the prisoners from boredom that causes them stress as a result of thinking too much about their families and other things, which they miss outside prisons. She further expressed expectation that the books will provide education to the prisoners for their personal advancement and development. The books provided by the company are the Sesotho Literature books and Ms Putsoa promised that they would provide more books for Mathematics, Science and Agricultural studies to facilitate further studies of prisoners. When receiving the books on behalf of the Prisons Service, the Director of the service, Mr. Lepotla Seimane expressed great gratitude to the company for providing the books to the prisoners. Mr. Seimane, indicated that education is essential for the development of every person. He said, the books would help the prisoners to learn reading and writing, which is important for them to understand life in prisons and to be able to communicate well with other people outside prisons. He urged the prisoners to keep the books safely and to put them in good use to benefit those prisoners who are able to read as well as those who cannot read.
