LIKUENA ATTRACTS M100 000 INCENTIVES FROM BUSINESS COMPANIES

Local business contractors Nthane/Matekane Civils has promised to give Likuena M100 000 as incentive for a win in the Africa  Cup of Nations (ACN) against continental soccer giants Senegal on Sunday 08 September,2002.

In an interview, the Nthane/Matekane Civils Spokesperson Mr. Teboho Kobeli said they have pledged this amount, which has already been deposited in the company's account provided Likuena wins against Senegal on Sunday. Mr. Kobeli said if the team plays a draw, then the players would get half of this amount and if they lose they get nothing adding that the money is expected to be divided equally amongst the players and officials of the team.

"This money is only intended to uplift the players to perform to their best abilities and to promote the dwindling love of sports among Basotho as a whole," he stressed. Mr. Kobeli said the other reason is that soccer brings together people of different political and religious status together, adding that Nthane/Matekane Civils wanted to be part of this move.

Meanwhile, Likuena Team Manager Mr. Khiba Mohoanyane applauded Nthane/Matekane Civils for the move saying it is likely to spur the players to realize the importance of winning. He said this shows the passion Basotho have in soccer and promised that they would do all they could not to disappoint them.

The  company has previously assisted Likuena by  purchasing  mobile phones for all the Likuena players who featured in the 2000 Council of Southern Africa Football Association (COSAFA) Castle cup finals against Zimbabwe and also covered the traveling as well as accommodation costs for the team to spy on the semi finals between South Africa and Zimbabwe in Port Elizabeth in the same year.
