LESOTHO TO HOST AFRICAN ASSOCIATION FOR PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION AND MANAGEMENT ( AAPAM) ROUNDTABLE CONFERENCE

 

The government of Lesotho will host the 24th African Association for Public Administration and Management (AAPAM) Annual. Roundtable Conference at Lesotho Sun hotel from November 25 to 29, 2002. According to the Manager in the Training and Development department of the Ministry of Public Service, Mr T. Kolane, the roundtable conference will serve as a vital forum where high-level policy makers, academics, practitioners in the administration and management as well as interested members of multi-lateral and bilateral agencies meet to deliberate on identified key issues that are critical to the national, regional and continental development of Africa.

The theme for the roundtable conference is "The African public service in the twenty-first century - New initiatives in performance management". Topics to be discussed at the conference include Understanding Performance Management in the Public sector, Changing Performance Management Movement in Africa, Strengthening Individual Performance, Leadership issues and others. 

Expected at the conference for participation are political leaders, senior civil servants, chief executives, senior managers in public and business enterprises of NGOs, Experts in various fields of human endevours and development management scholars, from African countries. It is hoped that institutions such as the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, the Organisation for African Unity, the African Development Bank and the African Reinsurance Corporation, will send high-level delegations to the conference.
