LESOTHO HOSTS CONFEDERATION OF SOUTHERN AFRICAN NETBALL ASSOCIATION (COSANA) TOURNEY

Lesotho will host a one-week Confederation of Southern Africa Netball Association (COSANA) senior teams' tournament which will commence on September 28. In an interview, the Lesotho National Netball Association (LNNA) Public Relations Officer Mrs. 'Mampiti Thamae said the aim of the tournament is to promote netball in the region. Mrs. Thamae stated that the association is trying to lure business community
to sponsor the tournament but nothing concrete has come out yet. She noted that the national team has started training on weekends to prepare for the tournament, adding that the technical team is trying to assemble the strongest squad possible.

The PRO said Lesotho has been performing below par in international competition, attributing the poor performance to lack of enough preparations due to lack of funds and employers' reluctance to release players from work. COSANA tournament is an annual regional event contested by countries from Southern Africa like Botswana, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe as well as the host nation Lesotho. Lesotho came out last in the eight-member tournament that was held in Swaziland last year. South Africa and Malawi are dominating netball tournaments in the region as the latter is the reigning COSANA netball champions.
