LESOTHO GIRL GUIDES ASSOCIATION (LGGA) TO ESTABLISH AN ORPHANAGE VILLAGE IN MAPELENG

The Lesotho Girl Guides Association in collaboration with the Child Welfare Society in Lesotho, "Tin/Can Villages" will establish an orphanage at Mapeleng in Maseru between December 2002 and early next year.

The Deputy President of Tin/Can Villages, Ms. Makama Masitha said the purpose of establishing this Orphanage is to try and take care of those children whose parents have died either because of normal death or HIV/AIDS related deaths. She indicated that the selection of the orphans would be made by the Child Welfare Society. She further explained that Child Welfare Society Officials would consider various issues such as whether the concerned orphan is from a Child headed family and whether the said orphan has lost both parents.   

According to Ms. Masitha various facilities, which would be available at this orphanage  would include a kindergarten and a clinic with a counseling unit. The LGGA, Child Welfare Society in Lesotho and other individuals will provide financial support for the project.
