LESOTHO DISTANCE TEACHING CENTER TO CONDUCT LITERACY TEST

 


The Lesotho Distance Teaching Center (LDTC) in Berea will conduct literacy and numeracy tests for 800 people drawn from different places starting from Monday, 16 September, 2002. In an interview, LDTC monitor, Mrs. 'Mapalesa Futho, said the purpose of the tests is to evaluate the effectiveness of literacy programme offered through the LDTC learning posts in the district. Mrs. Futho added that the tests are aimed at motivating learners so that they could to achieve certain roles in their lives such as communicating without any problem with other people.

Mrs. Futho further said the tests would be a preparation for literacy graduation ceremony, which will be held in November this year, adding that 20 learners  graduated last year. The LDTC Monitor, pointed out that the learners  who will participate would be from 56 learning posts, which are situated at Ha-Motjoka, Ha-Majara, Ha-'Mamathe, Mapheleng, Mokoallong, Ha-Mothebesoane, Thupa-Kubu, Sefikeng, Pitsaneng and Ha-Nkhahle.

Mrs. Futho, indicated that their learners include; prisoners and herd boys, saying that Berea is among five districts that offer basic course to illiterate people in the country, followed by Leribe, Mafeteng, Thaba-Tseka and Qacha's Nek.
