In his speech, the Commander indicated that the importance of the Sand Model Room in any army cannot be emphasized, saying it is a place where vital tactical training can be given to the officers and men of the army, without having to waste resources on the logistics of conducting such an exercise on the ground. He mentioned that training on any operation of war or peace, on different terrain, be it the training for actual war, peace keeping operations and mobilization inside Lesotho for any emergency or situation of disaster management, can easily be rehearsed using the sand model room. Lt. General Mosakeng commended the Army Engineers who constructed the building for a job well done, saying the room signals the people's use of lots of brains while saving lots of resources. He said they have also acquired new skills during the construction of the Sand Model Room. At the same occasion, Brigadier Jasbir Singh clarified that the Sand Model Room has already provided new horizons in the methods of instructions that are used to teach military tactics, adding that it is not always simple to take a class out to a particular feature terrain, for example to Mokhotlong, but the desired feature terrains can now be created on the sand model to conduct necessary lessons. He further pointed out that the building has been made by salvaging items which would other wise have been discarded, thereby saving considerable money, time and effort. Meanwhile, the cost put in the project is M65 000, and
it has been very useful for the Engineers in extending the concept of
recycling of waste material in order to reduce costs and minimize pollution.
The room also has a multi-purpose function to provide among others,
Classroom for training wing, sand model room, conference hall, operations
control center and audio visual center. The occasion was attended by Senior
Army Officials, LDF engineers and media practitioners from various media
houses. | |
