LESOTHO COUNCIL OF NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANASATIONS (LCN) TO HOLD POST SUMMIT WORKSHOP

The Lesotho Council of Non-governmental Organisations (LCN) will hold a five-day national forum which is a follow-up on World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) at the Blue Mountain Inn, Berea, from Wednesday to Sunday next week.

In an interview, the Project Officer for LCN, Mr Moshe Ts'ehlo said the five-day workshop is intended to turn the civil society's position on WSSD into a national program of action. He said at the workshop all civil society representation to the WSSD is expected to take part, adding that the Secretariat of the WSSD civil society forum has also be invited.

Mr Ts'ehlo said the theme of the workshop would be - Turning Words into Action - observing that there has been a lot of theorising in the past, and that it is time to come up with specific actions. The Project Officer said the forum will also be followed by one-day briefing sessions, where civil societies in all the districts will be briefed on WSSD and the national program of action.

The briefing sessions will be held at Thaba-Tseka for the districts of Mokhotlong, Qacha's Nek and Thaba-Tseka, and at Leribe for Butha-Buthe, Leribe and Berea, while for the southern districts of Mafeteng, Mohale's Hoek and Quthing, the meeting will be held at Mohale's Hoek. The WSSD was held in South Africa last month as a follow-up to the Rio Summit which was held 10 years ago.
