LESOTHO CONGRESS FOR DEMOCRACY (LCD) MEMBERS URGED TO MAINTAIN PEACE
The leader of the Lesotho Congress for Democracy (LCD), who is also Prime Minister of Lesotho, Mr Pakalitha Mosisili has appealed to members of the LCD to work for peace and stability for the development of the country. Speaking at a rally held ahead of the fresh elections to be held in Mount Moorosi on August 24, Mr. Mosisili said Lesotho is behind in economic development, because there has never been peace in the country since its independence more than 30 years ago. He said the new electoral model has been introduced to give small political parties a chance to get into parliament since it has been recognised that some parties destabilise the peace when they are not in parliament.

"The government is currently distributing food donations throughout the country and this is not a way to buy votes but to help people who starve," he added. He further said the government would introduce the new agricultural policy where field-owners will be supported with agricultural inputs and will be expected to share production with government after harvesting.

In an interview, the candidate for LCD in the constituency, Mr. Makoa Kosi said if he wins the elections, he will work very hard to ensure that the current problems facing the community, such as lack of infrastructure are solved. The people who attended the rally requested the Prime Minister to create jobs, as lack of jobs is the main sources of crime and poverty. Members of Parliament from different constituencies were also in attendance. The rally was held ahead of the fresh elections to be held on August 24.

The Prime Minister will hold another rally at Hlotse on Sunday also in preparation for the coming election to be held at Hlotse.
