In an interview, the Executive Director for LANFE, Mrs. Esther Sakoane told Lesotho News Agency (LENA) that the objective of the meeting is to make the necessary preparations for the Adult Learners’ Week, which would be celebrated from September 8 to September 14 this year.

Mrs. Sakoane said, the meeting would be attended by non-governmental organisations and some governmental organisations that include; Lesotho Distance Teaching Centre (LDTC), Institute of Extra Mural Studies (IEMS), Basotho Enterprise Development Corporation (BEDCO), Lesotho Opportunities Industrialisation Centre (LOIC) and Mineworkers Development Agency (MDA).

The Executive Director for LANFE showed that the purpose of Adult Learners’ Week is meant to raise awareness among the public, and the government about the importance of adult education, “Perhaps non-formal education because most of the times it is less considered, particularly when making education policy”.

“The history of celebrating the Adult Learners’ Week goes back to the year 1996 in other international countries and it would be celebrated in Lesotho for the first time in September 2002”, Mrs Sakoane, said.
