| The January, 2002 SADC Summit ends | |

Prime Minister Pakalitha Mosisili and delegation arrived in Lesotho Tuesday, January15, from the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Heads of State and Government Summit that took place in Blantyre on Monday, January 14. The summit looked into, among others, political and economic situations of countries within the region, particularly, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Zimbabwe and Angola. In an interview upon arrival at the Lesotho International Airport, Prime Minister Mosisili said, the meeting was a success because the participants were able to discuss and agreed on concrete issues to ensure peace and tranquility in the Southern African region. He further said, the participants were happy to hear that the situation in Angola will finally return to normality; adding that, they discussed also the removal of foreign soldiers in the DRC to give an opportunity to the country to transform. The meeting dealt also with the economic and political situation of Zimbabwe, particularly, this crucial time when the country is heading for the Presidential Election scheduled for March this year, Prime Minister Mosisili reported. He continued that, the members agreed to strengthen their cooperation to fight terrorism, particularly, this time when it (terrorism) is an international problem.
