INTERNATIONAL CIVIL AVIATION DAY TO BE MARKED
 

      
The International Civil Aviation day will be marked at the Moshoeshoe I International Airport in Mazenod on Saturday (December 14). A press release from the Department of Civil Aviation indicates that the purpose of marking the day is to establish and reinforce worldwide awareness of the importance of international civil aviation in the social and economic development of states. It clarified that the main event for the day will be the pleasure flights for children and adults to be conducted at the airport from 0700 hours to1800 hours aimed at giving everyone a chance to board an airplane with a minimal charge.

The press release indicated that the theme for this year's celebration approved by the
International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) will be "One Hundred years of Powered, Sustained and controlled flight" for the world wide commemoration of the day and throughout the year 2003. It clarified that the theme refers to the 100th anniversary of the historic flight of the Wright Brothers at Kitty Hawk in the United States on December 17 1903, regarded as the beginning of civil aviation. The International Civil Aviation day is marked annually on December 07.
