| INDIAN TRADITIONAL GROUP TO VISIT LESOTHO FOR TRADITIONAL EXCHANGE | |

An Indian Traditional Music group from India will visit Lesotho to perform classical Indian music for Basotho at Lesotho Sun hotel on August 6, 20002.The Indian Security Advisor to the government of Lesotho, Brigadier Jesbir Singh told a press conference at the Ministry of Defence on Tuesday 30 July, 2002 that the visit has been sponsored by the government of India with the aim of promoting the friendly relationship existing between Basotho and the Indians through sharing each other’s traditions. The function will be officially opened by the High Commissioner for India to the Kingdom of Lesotho, Mr Shiu Shankar Mukherjee, who is based in Pretoria, South Africa. The Prime Minister, Mr Pakalitha Mosisili has been invited to attend the function. Other invitees include all the high ranking officials in the government, all members of the diplomatic cores in Lesotho, members of parliament and media. Mr. Singh indicated that the group, called ‘Panchavadyan’ which means five instruments, plays music with five Indian traditional instruments and the type of music they play is normally played during religious festivals in India. He stated that the group is the third musical group to come to Lesotho. He added that the first one came in July last year and another one followed in February this year. He expressed his certainty that more of such groups will visit the country. 31 July,2002
