ISAS TO MONITOR PROGRESS OF GOOD GOVERNANCE

 

The Institute of Southern African Studies (ISAS) ofthe National University of Lesotho (NUL) will hold a one-day workshop forstakeholders in the field of governance at Maseru Sun on Thursday 26 Septeber, 2002.next week.

A press release from ISAS shows that the Institute is to carry out a research project titled - Monitoring Progress Towards Good Governance in Lesotho-  and the workshop is intended to give the project the widest
publicity and support from all stakeholders in the field of governance.

The release said it is also to ensure the success of the project through
consultations with the community.Itadded that the project is part of an Africa-wide programme of researchstudies sponsored by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA)with the main objectives being to document and analyse the current state
of democracy and good governance in Lesotho, through examination of such issuesas governance structures and institutions, governance efficiency, economic management and service delivery.

Invited to the workshop include, Senators, members of the National Assembly,Principal Secretaries, District Secretaries, Chiefs, representatives ofpolitical parties, traditionalists and individuals interested in good
governance.The project will seek to add local ownership of advancing and promoting good
governance in Lesotho.
