The Indian High Commissioner to Lesotho, Mr Shiu Shanker Mukherjee says the enemy of peace is not only hostility, but it is also ignorance which is greatly contributing in creating wars and divisions among nations of the world. Mr. Mukherjee said this at an event of Indian classical music performance by an Indian traditional group, at Lesotho Sun on Tuesday. He stated that promotion of cultural exchange is the best method of removing ignorance. He added that through cultural exchange, people get to know and understand each other better and as a result, they make peace and build friendship. The High Commissioner asserted that in view of the importance of cultural exchange between different nations, they felt it important to bring the Indian traditional music to Lesotho to further strengthen the good relations existing between the two nations. He expressed hope that Lesotho will soon do the same for India, in return. Speaking at the same occasion, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Mohlabi Tsekoa thanked the association of the Indian community in Lesotho and the High Commission for India to Lesotho for making that cultural event possible in Lesotho. Mr. Tsekoa indicated the music that the Indian group played at the event bound Basotho and the Indians together. "Music plays a significant role during times of war or peace", he said adding that music can help a man gain strength during hard times and can also help him express his happiness in good times. The event was graced with the presence of the Prime Minister, Mr.
Pakalitha Mosisili. Present were also the Cabinet Ministers, the President
of the Senate, Mr. Sempe Lejaha, the Government Secretary, Mr. Tlohang
Sekhamane, Members of Diplomatic Corps in Lesotho and other government
officials. The group that was performing, was the third Indian group to
perform in Lesotho. The first one came in June last year and it was followed
by the one which came in February, this year. | |
