GOVERNMENTS COMMITTED TO DEVELOPMENT OF PEOPLE - PRIME MINISTER.

The Prime Minister, Mr Pakalitha Mosisili says heads of state and government that attended the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) have committed themselves to human development by signing a document of human development. Speaking in an interview upon arrival from the WSSD that ended on Wednesday 04 September,2002. Mr Mosisili said the programme of action signed by heads of state and government goes as far as ensuring accessibility to clean water, health
services and sanitation.

In response to critics that ideas entailed by the signed documents are not knew, but have just been recycled, Mr Mosisili said that might be true, adding that it is why governments had to meet in Johannesburg to review the Rio De Janeiro document, and find ways in which it can be properly implemented. Mr Mosisili also mentioned that one of the documents signed is one that talks about environmental protection. He said this document serves to halt the loss of biodiversity and commits nations to work towards moving away from the use of environmentally damaging fossil fuels.

The Prime Minister was arriving from the WSSD, which ended on Wednesday. More than 100 heads of state and government attended the summit and approved a document intended to reverse global degradation and close the gap between rich and poor.
