Mr. Mosisili said it is through intensive training that they will be able to help the police gain a sense of confidence and competence, adding that the Police Training Advisory Board is established with the purpose of assessing the training offered at the Police Training College and to come up with new techniques required in the training of members of the Police Service in the new millennium. He said the government is aware that there is shortage of personnel and that it is prepared to train more police officers so that the number of police could increase. The Prime Minister said the Police Service now need people with University degrees in different fields so that they could be able to investigate criminal activities of different kinds with the sole objective of fighting crime. He said it is important that crime prevention committees are established throughout the country as a tool to strengthen relationships between communities and the police so that they could jointly uproot crime. Speaking at the same occasion, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Jonas Malewa said the 'Muela Police Post would assist many communities around 'Muela by saving them long journeys of going to Qalo for police services. Commissioner Malewa appealed to people who will utilise this Police Post to keep it clean. Many of the speakers appealed to the police who will be stationed at the 'Muela Police Post to work hard in fighting crime and to be competent, as they will have enough equipment to do so.
The 'Muela Police Post has been funded by the LHDA with more than M4 million.
Present at the occasion were cabinet ministers, principal secretaries,
members of Parliament, school children and the public. Another Police Post
was earlier opened at Pitseng in September this year. | |
