DIABETES, HYPERTENSION WEEK TO BE OBSERVED
 


Diabetes and hypertension awareness week would be observed with various activities at Nts'ekhe government hospital and other health centres in Mohale'shoek from Monday 11 November,2002. In an interview, the Public Health Nurse, Mrs. 'Mampe Makhabane, said the events of the week are aimed at creating awareness to the public about causes of different diseases and their impact.

Mrs. Makhabane said, the intention is to avoid incidences of people, who are sometimes, attacked by stroke without knowledge that they suffer from either sugar diabetes, which is also known as hypertension. she said among the activities, would include; briefing the public about the diseases and free testing, especially elderly people, who do not know their health status. She indicated that those, who would be found positive to the tests, would be expected to attend medical treatment.

It is important for people to know their health status and attend check ups acquired, since diabetes and hypertension are incurable", she said. The awareness week would be observed at Mootsinyane, Mohalinyane, and Liphiring and Holy Cross on Tuesday, Ha Ts'epo and Mpharane on Wednesday, Lipthipeng, Bethel and Phamong on Thursday ond Friday. It would be observed at Mohale'shoek racecourse. The public would be expected to assemble at the health centres to make a week's activities.
