The Disaster Management Authority (DMA) has on Tuesday 30th April,
distributed a total of 500 bags of 50 kg unsifted maize meal per district
for the benefit of the needy, as a measure to kick start the programme of
the Prime Minister's call for emergency appeal to poverty disaster in
Lesotho.
According to DMA's Information Officer Mr. Theko Majara, the members of
the community who qualify to receive the donations, will each get hold of
the 50kg of maize meal along with 5kg of Bindo beans at selected
distribution places. He pointed out that the maize meal and beans are
meant to be food aids for the needy, adding that beneficiaries will range
from the needy and aged people to orphans.
He concluded by noting that the maize meal has been produced by the
Lesotho Flour Mills in Maseru and Lesotho milling company in Maputsoe
following the government's subsidy in order for the nation to afford the
purchase of maize meal in Lesotho.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister Mr. Pakalitha Mosisili recently called for
emergency appeal over the state of poverty in Lesotho, of which the
Government invested M23 million to solve prevailing circumstances of
famine in the country.
