CATTLE POSTS SHOULD ALL BE RAIDED - THABANE

The Minister of Home Affairs, Mr. Motsoahae Thabane says cattle posts belonging to police officers should be raided so that owners could explain how they got their livestock, saying their wealth should be compared to their salaries. He said this when addressing the Tsime Community about crime prevention at a public gathering on Friday 13 December,2002.

The Minister said it is difficult to uproot crime when there are members of the Police Service who work with criminals and own livestock, adding that such officers should be made accountable for livestock they own. Mr. Thabane said it is unfortunate that people who are trusted to protect the public and their belongings are helping criminals to steal. The Minister made a plea to senior police officers to get rid of the police who are engaged in criminal activities as they are discrediting the Police Service, and added people who have true information about corrupt police officers should report them to the authorities so that they could be removed from the Service.

He encouraged the Tsime Community to work hand in hand to form crime prevention committees and urged the public to support those committees. Speaking at the same occasion, a Member of Parliament for Hololo Constituency, Mr. Nthofela Lesala urged the community to come forward and to give evidence in court so that criminals could be put away. He said it is time that the public report suspects so that they could be removed from the villages.

This is the second public gathering that the Minister holds in the district
and it was attended by among others, the Principal Chief of Butha-Buthe and
a Member of Parliament for Qalo constiiituency.
