CARITAS ITALIA DELEGATION LEAVES FOR ITALY

Two delegates from Caritas Italia have left for Italy on Monday after completing their three-day official visit to Caritas Lesotho. In an interview, the information officer of the Lesotho Catholic Bishops' Conference (LCBC) Mr. Frank Nkhau said the objective of the Caritas Italia's visit was to get the reaction of Caritas Lesotho on the state of famine that was declared by the Prime Minister.

Mr. Nkhau further said the delegation was also briefed about the activities of Caritas Lesotho that are aimed at eradicating poverty as a major problem that faces the country. He stated that in an effort to address poverty, LCBC through Caritas
together with the South African Catholic Bishops' Conference (SACBC) have
proposed partnership in development towards the eradication of poverty in South Africa and Lesotho. He pointed out that the discussion between Caritas Italia and Caritas Lesotho focused on issues of mutual interest on micro-projects and exchange in training programmes in an effort to raise the standard of living amongst people.

The discussions were honoured by the presence of the general secretary of LCBC Reverend Father Pascalis Mokhethi and Bishop Paul Khoarai of Leribe. The Caritas Italia delegation was composed of Mr. Paolo Cereda and Mr. Francisco Meneghetti. The delegation arrived on Friday last week. Meanwhile Caritas is the association within the Roman Catholic Church (RCC), whose objective is to help the needy people with clothes and food in an effort to improve their standard of living.
