BRITISH ELECTION OBSERVER MISSION IN LESOTHO FOR THE 25 MAY GENERAL ELECTIONS

 

The British election observer mission comprising local staff and staff from Pretoria will observe the 25 May 2002 Lesotho general elections.

The Deputy High Commissioner of Britain to Lesotho, Matthew Forbes reported on May 15 that, Britain would be represented by an 18 man observer mission as part of the 40 observers from the European Union (EU) countries who will observe the elections.  He said, the first batch will arrive on Monday, May 20 and the last on Wednesday 22, same week; adding that, they will be around until Tuesday, May 28.

Further, Deputy High Commissioner Forbes said, the deployment would start Wednesday 22, to cover certain areas of the country.  He mentioned also that, a number of the EU countries will send
observers to monitor the elections.
