BASOTHO SHOULD EXERCISE THEIR RIGHTS - LIKATE
The Commissioner of the Independent Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Mokhele Likate says that time has come that the Basotho must exercise their rights and take responsibility to ensure that parliamentarians deliver quality service for development.

He was responding to a concern raised at the public gathering held in Hlotse in the District of Leribe on Friday 16 August,2002 that after elections, the parliamentarians do not deliver services as promised during their campaigns. He said that parliamentarians are elected to serve the public, and they must be approached and guided by the same electors . He said Basotho must embrace the challenges of building and promoting democracy for sustainable development.

Mr. Likate appealed to Linare in the Hlotse constituency to demonstrate the same active participation in the fresh election as they did in the recent general elections. He said a vote is a power to influence constructive changes and sustain democracy. The public gathering was held in preparation of the fresh elections that will be held on Saturday 24 August,2002 . These elections follow the death of the national progressive party representative Mrs. Manthabiseng Phakisi before the general elections in May.
