5000 HOUSEHOLDS BENEFITED FROM FOOD DONATION

The Disaster Management Authority (DMA) distributed 50kg maize meal and 5kg beans to more than 5000 households throughout the district. In an interview, the District Disaster Management Officer, Mrs. 'Masamuele Letuka, said the households that have received food are those that have either elderly people, orphans, child headed families or people with disabilities." We have not yet finished the first round distribution as the food finished before we could finish the first round, but we are still waiting for more food, " she added.

Mrs. Letuka, said although they have finished distribution of food in the Mechachane and Qalo constituencies, they are left with four distribution points, which include Tsime, Motete, Shishila and Ha Mahlekefane that makeup more than 1000 households. She said, initially they had thought that they would distribute food in each constituency then go to another, this is the reason why the Mechachane constituency was finished and Qalo constituency had fewer beneficiaries compared to others.

The Distribution Field Officers, said the problems that they encountered during the distribution include amongst others the fact that people, who do not qualify as beneficiaries had registered and this caused misunderstandings. They also pointed out that some people, who qualified wanted to get more than one bag of maize-meal and beans and this is not how it was supposed to be done.

The DMA Officers are in a process of visiting all villages to correct the lists of beneficiaries in conjunction with the registration committee, and to cancel the people who were wrongly put and to register those who deserve to be registered and to explain to them the reasons of the exercise to avoid misunderstandings.
